If there is free health care for all in America, what will happen to Doctor’s salaries?

ben asked:

I am a pre-med student right now and I really enjoy what I am studying so I don’t think I will be changing my major any time soon. However I still want to know what I am getting myself into.

All input is appreciated, thanks

Good question. I don’t know how it would affect doctors’ salaries, but doctors in other countries seem to make a comfortable living. One can assume that under a universal (not “free”) health care system, doctors, especially primary care doctors, would spend less time dealing with insurance companies and trying to extract payment from them. If you believe time is money, that could help some doctors make more money. Or play more golf.
