What jobs can I do with a B.S. in Pre-Med before I apply for a Physician’s Assistant Master’s degree?

Laura R asked:

Alright. Here’s my story: I want to be a PA. I’m a sophomore at Clemson University (No haters please, haha) with a 3.74 GPA in Pre-Med. I’ve done countless volunteer work.
I’ve done all the research with prereqs and applied them to my academic plan and then some (I’m taking more organic and biochem and health classes than needed).
I’m just missing one thing: How on earth am I going to compete with all the Nurses and EMTs who have yrs of job experience who are applying to be PAs too? There’s a time limit on the course prereqs, and as my college loans mount (30k by grad), I’m reluctant to take a 2-yr Tech program after college and then have to spend a couple years in that in order to have decent job experience.
Maybe some of my courses tie into a certification program, I’m not sure. Please, does anyone have any idea where I can start in terms of direct patient care exp?
I’d really appreciate any help!
